The Chapman Law Review wishes to congratulate Ben Bertch (Staff Editor, 2L) and his teammate Minhquan Nguyen (3L) for making it to the final round at the National Juvenile Law Competition held at Whittier Law School.
For the competition, the case involved an undocumented immigrant whose children were taken into custody by the State because of an abusive boyfriend. Unfortunately, the immigrant was taken into custody by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and missed several parental rights reunification hearings (though no fault of her own) before being deported. The questions before the court involved whether the Department of Child Welfare provided reasonable efforts to provide child reunification services, and whether termination of the immigrant’s reunification services violated procedural due process.
